For 10 weeks from 19th July 2021 visitors to Leicester City Centre were wowed by 40 giant 8ft tall rocket sculptures, making up the Rocket Round Leicester art trail! The vent was organised by Leicestershire and Rutland charity LOROS Hospice along with art event producers Wild In Art in order to bring a splash of colour to Leicester’s streets and raise funds and awareness for LOROS.
LOROS Hospice is a local charity and every year they care for over 2,500 people across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland. They deliver free, high-quality, compassionate care and support to terminally ill patients, their family and carers. Patients and their families are at the heart of everything they do.
The auction saw thirty-nine 8ft Rockets from the biggest art trail Leicester has seen sold off to raise a massive £153,095 for LOROS Hospice. The auction took part in the apt surrounds of Leicester’s National Space Centre and bids came flying in, both online and in person!

Our Retro Rocket was designed by Mik Richardson and was originally located at Great Central Square in Leicester City Centre. According to the Rocket Around Leicester website the sculpture was that it reminded Mik of the fabulous retro rockets of the Flash Gordon era that were made into the iconic lava lamp. The Rocket is hand painted with a multitude of colours to look like glowing blobs and bubbles that we all recognise.
The fantastic sculpture is now proudly on display at our Head Office in Leicester.
