An untargeted cyber attack is where an attacker targets as many devices or users as possible. In this instance they do not care who the victim is. These type of attacks often include ransomwear and phishing attacks.
Concerned that you might be the victim of a cyber attack?
In a phishing attack victims are contacted by email. telephone or text message by someone posing as a legitimate business or organisation in order to trick the victim into providing sensitive data such as personally identifiable information, banking and credit card details, and passwords. The criminals can then use this sensitive data to access the victims accounts and can often result in identity theft and financial loss.
Ransomware is a form of malware that prevents users from accessing their devices and any data stored on them. This is usually achieved by encrypting the data. The criminals behind the malware are essentially holding your data hostage, and will demand a ransom in exchange for decryption. They may also threaten to leak your data if the ransom is not paid.
